Interactive Kiosk and Explorer Map Display Settings

In this article, we will show you how to adjust the display of your Interactive Kiosk and Explorer Maps.

This is useful, as you may want to give a good first impression to customers by showing them a certain viewpoint of your map to enhance the customer experience.

Difference between Interactive Kiosk and Explorer

We will outline the difference between these two features.

Interactive Kiosk - A stationary computer terminal containing specialised hardware and software to provide access to information for customers / users who need assistance at a venue to find where they need to go

Explorer - Accessed through a QR code which acts as a website URL containing all the information from the Interactive Kiosk, specifically condensed and designed for smartphone usage

Accessing Interactive Kiosk and Explorer

You need to have access to the Kiosk and Explorer links to see the results of the changes you make.
To gain access, please follow the steps below.

Steps

1. In the PAM navigation menu, go to 360 Planner > Digital Signs

2. Select Digital Sign Map tab

3. Select / Search / Filter to find the Interactive Kiosk digital sign that you want to use. Click on the sign once located

4. The right-hand side pop up will appear

To get the Interactive Kiosk link

5. Underneath SIGNID, click on the link below. This will open up a new tab from which you will see the Interactive Kiosk appear on your browser.

To get the Explorer link

6. Stay on the same sign and scroll to the bottom of the settings and you will see the QR code

7. Select open and this will open a new tab on your browser with Explorer OR scan the QR code with your smartphone to have Explorer appear on your smartphone.

8. Alternatively, you can get the Explorer QR Code from the Dashboard (home page) of PAM OS.
When you are on the Dashboard, look at the bottom of the Digital Signs section and scan the QR code with your smartphone or copy the link to open it up in a new tab for your browser.

The rest of this article will show some display configuration settings for both Interactive Kiosk and Explorer. Let us start with an overview of what everything means and where to find them. Afterwards, we will show some examples of how it may look like in Kiosk or Explorer, should you choose to make configurations

Map Configuration - Global Kiosk Settings

Steps

1. In the PAM navigation menu, go to 360 Planner > Digital Signs

2. Select SIGN CONFIGURATION tab

3. Select Interactive Kiosk

4. On the right-hand side, global configuration settings for the Interactive Kiosk will appear

5. Stay on the General tab

6. Scroll down to Map Configuration

These settings will directly affect Interactive Kiosk and Explorer

7. Default map style: This is the option to make your Interactive Kiosk to be viewed in either light or dark mode as the default setting

8. Default pitch: This lets you change the default view when the Interactive Kiosk is loaded up.
Maximum pitch is 60 which is a bird’s eye view at an angle. Having a pitch of 0 will mean your view looks like a normal bird’s eye view

9. Enable switching between map styles: Activating this toggle will result in being able to switch from either light or dark mode at any given time while viewing the map on Kiosk and Explorer.

10. Zoom range: This lets you adjust the default setting on how far or how close you want to be on a map when you first open it up on the Kiosk. The higher the zoom range number, the closer you will be into the map and can see your starting point location. The lower the zoom range number, the further you will be zoomed out the map and can see more surroundings

11. Enable Night Safe routing: Activating this toggle will result in being able to activate night-safe routes when generating directions to a location on the map. Night-safe routes are routes with well-lit areas or extensive CCTV cameras in the area. This alerts customers to which routes contain these features, thus making their journey safer at night-time.

Map Configuration - Individual Kiosk Settings

Steps

1. In the PAM navigation menu, go to 360 Planner > Digital Signs

2. Select DIGITAL SIGN MAP Tab

3. Select / Search / Filter to find the Interactive Kiosk digital sign that you want to use.
Click on the sign once located

4. On the right-hand side, global configuration settings for the Interactive Kiosk will appear.
Stay on the General tab and scroll down to Map Configuration section

5. Select Map Center of the device on the map - this lets you change the starting point to another area on the map when the Kiosk is loaded up

6. Default map style - this is the option to make your Interactive Kiosk to be viewed in either light or dark mode as the default setting

7. Map Display heads-up rotation - this is used to rotate the display heads up view. Rotation is automatically set by the rotation of the sign and shouldn't be changed

8. Default pitch - this lets you change the default view when the Interactive Kiosk is loaded up.

9. Zoom range - this lets you place a guide on the minimum or maximum zoom level that a user can see.
(i.e. If you set the zoom range to 20, you can zoom all the way into 20)

Map Editor - Map Configuration settings

Inside Map Editor, there are further settings that enable you to change the display of your Interactive Kiosk.

Steps

1. In the PAM navigation menu, go to 360 Planner > Map Editor

2. On the right-hand side, there will be the feature tools with the feature types popping up. Scroll down to the Map Configuration section

3. Default pitch - This lets you change the default view when the Interactive Kiosk is loaded up.
Maximum pitch is 60 which is a bird’s eye view at an angle. Having a pitch of 0 will mean your view looks like a normal bird’s eye view

4. Default rotation - This lets you change the direction you are facing inside the map when first accessed

5. Select Center Point on the map - This lets you set a point on the map where it will act as the centre view. This means that if you put the point anywhere, when a Kiosk / Explorer is opened, it will focus on that area

6. The green pointer is currently where the centre point is situated. By default, it will be placed on the most important / biggest location on the map. If you do not have a green pointer in Map Editor, the centre point by default would be close to the venue feature type that you created

Display range

7. Show Navmap at Zoom - This lets you set the range of how far you can zoom in and out

8. Hide Mapbox 3d Buildings at Zoom - When you set the zoom at a certain level, (i.e. 2), anything that is before the point you set will cause 3D buildings to be hidden

9. Set the Min, Max and Default zoom range: This lets you set a range of zoom levels that will be seen inside both kiosk and explorer
