Adding 3D models to the map

In this article, you will be adding 3D models to your map through Map Editor

To proceed with this article, users are expected to have:

  • Uploaded a 3D model to the 3D assets library, refer to this link if needed

  • Dictionary category for 3D Models, refer to this link if needed

  • Destination dictionary for the 3D model, refer to this link if needed

How to add 3D models

Steps

1. In the PAM Navigation menu, go to 360 Planner > Map Editor

2. Click on 3D model under the feature tools heading

3. Place the 3D model on the map

4. Add in Dictionary Item name. The 3D model should then appear when the dictionary name is added because that the 3D model should be linked to the Dictionary item when you first created it.

5. Label Sort Index: the smaller the number, the larger the label (dictionary item name) will be on the map

6. Choose Label Display: None or Text. According to user preference

7. Adjust the Scale . Currently to get a 1:1 scale (This is a full size model when viewed) from your imported model the value should be set to 0.000000000301 to give you a general guide. You can then change this number if you want the model to be larger or smaller

8. Fill in Rotation according to preference. This lets you change the direction of your model to face the correct way it needs to be.

9. Adjust the Start Zoom according to your preference. Default zoom is 15 (recommended).

10. Adjust the End Zoom according to your preference. Default end zoom is 22 (recommended).

11. Adjust the 3D model Opacity to your preference. Maximum opacity is 100%. Recommended opacity is 80-90%.

12. Activate Fade near Start Zoom according to user preference.

13. Activate Fade near End Zoom according to user preference.

14. Activate Hide 3D Model if you don't want the model to be seen on the map but don’t want to delete it

15. Hidden (disabled) is used to hide your location from the Interactive Kiosk Map

16. Activate Locked to lock model. To move the 3D model around again, you will need to unlock this button.

17. Save changes

Open the Interactive Kiosk Map to preview the latest changes

18. In the PAM navigation menu, go to 360 Planner > Digital signs

19. Select Digital Sign Map tab

20. Click on an Interactive Kiosk Digital Sign (usually starts with 4.2 / the layout needs to say Interactive Kiosk)

21. Open up SignID

22. A new tab will open and you can view the changes in the Interactive Kiosk. Here is how our 3D model looks like in the photo below.

Extra Hints

  1. If your 3D model needs to remain visible on the map at all times (such as when zoomed in or zoomed out) you would set End Zoom to 24 and not activate Fade near End Zoom

  2. If your 3D model was an architectural building and the purpose was to be seen as a landmark but hidden to reveal detail underneath your would set End Zoom to 22 and activate Fade near End Zoom

HINT: Please remember to always save changes no matter how small AND if other pages are opened in different tabs, you must refresh them for the changes to be seen.

For example, in this article, the user may have Destination Dictionary and Map Editor opened in different tabs. When Destination Dictionary items have been created and saved, the Map Editor tab needs to be refreshed to see the new changes.
