Creating dictionary categories

In this article, users will create dictionary categories in PAM.

Create Dictionary Categories

Before a user adds a dictionary item into PAM, the user will need to create Categories for their destinations (locations). These categories are important to create because it will help to sort out the many dictionary items that a user may create. For example, all Parking Lot names will go in a category called “Parking”.
When I click on “Parking”, I would see all dictionary items related to that category.

PAM recommends creating the following Destination Categories:

Steps

1. On the PAM navigation menu, go to Dictionary > Categories

2. Click on [+ ADD CATEGORY]
Users have the option of adding a new category for either Destination, Messaging and Tenant.

3. For this example below, we have clicked on Destination.

Click here to learn the difference between each types.

4. Add a category Identifier - A short CODE to Identify the Category (i.e. For all Primary Destinations, the Identifier is PRIMARY)

5. Fill in the category description, under the Description heading to explain what the Category is used for (i.e. For all BLDG identifiers, the category description is Building)

For this example, we chose to create a Destination Category. The same method can be applied to creating a Messaging or Tenant Category.

6. Save changes

HINT: Please remember to always save changes no matter how small AND if other pages are opened in different tabs, you must refresh them for the changes to be seen.

For example, in this article, the user may have Categories and Destination Dictionary opened in different tabs. When a Category has been created and saved, the Destination Dictionary tab needs to be refreshed to see the new changes.
