Bulk import destination dictionary items

By using the destination dictionary bulk import option, you can upload all your destinations (locations) in one go. This is quite useful if you need to input 100’s of dictionary items at a time. The bulk import option helps to save time and improve efficiency as long as you have the right information on hand.

You are required to create dictionary categories before you start this process.

Please note: When doing bulk import, you cannot assign icons/logos/3D assets to the dictionary items. Once bulk import is done, you will need to manually go into each dictionary item to assign icons/logos/3D assets if required.

Adding in a destination dictionary in bulk

Steps

1. In the PAM navigation menu, go to Dictionary > Destination Dictionary

2. Click on Download Pending for approval to download the bulk import spreadsheet template

3. Open the downloaded CSV file. You can open this through a spreadsheet software (i.e. Google Sheets)

4. This is a list of your existing dictionary items in PAM that require approval. To bulk add new Dictionary Items we delete all the information in the rows except the header and the last row which contains 'ENDOFFILE_FILENAME' The user can see these changes in the photo below on the right-hand side.

The Downloaded CSV FILENAME and last row containing 'ENDOFFILE_FILENAME' are very important and must not be renamed as they are required when uploading back into PAM

5. Copy all destinations (locations) you wish to bulk import from your own prepared list

6. Highlight the Copy column as this is where the destination (locations) will go

7. Right-click and Paste

8. Select any extra unused rows to be deleted

9. Depending on your spreadsheet software, you can click on Delete selected rows or an equivalent function to delete the rows.

10. Go to the Dictionary > Categories page in PAM. Copy the category identifier you wish to import underneath the 'Identifier' column

11. Paste the category identifier to the ‘Cat’ (category) column in the bulk import spreadsheet. In this example, we are using the category “LIB”.

12. Make sure 'ENDOFFILE_FILENAME' is on the last row

13. Change Copy Approved from N to Y. Changing this to Y means that the destinations (locations) copied into the spreadsheet will be the ones used for uploading into PAM

14. Set Prominence = 5 (default setting). This is the size of the text label of your location in the Explorer Map. The higher the number, the bigger the text label. You can only set from 1 - 10.

15. Icon Only = 0. (A user is not able to upload an icon on bulk import)

16. Available to Navigation Maps = 1 (1=ON, 0=OFF). If activated, this will enable you to assign the location to a digital sign

17. Hide from Search = 0 (1=ON, 0=OFF). If activated, this will disable the location from being searchable in the Interactive Kiosk

18. Go to File > Export > CSV

19. Select CSV (PAM requires the file to be a .CSV file)

20. Click [Next]

21. Keep the file name the same, otherwise, it will not be accepted in PAM

22. Click [Export]

23. Go back to the Destination Dictionary page and click on Upload Approved

24. Click on 'Select CSV' and select the CSV file you exported in step 22

25. Click [UPLOAD]

26. Once uploaded, review the information and the settings to check for any potential errors

27. Click [SAVE TO DICTIONARY] when finished
