Duplicating scenes

In this article, users will be introduced to the duplicate scenes feature, why it was implemented and how it works.

Intro to duplicate scenes

Duplicate scenes is a feature which allows users to duplicate an existing scene to create a new scene that will inherit all information from the scene used.

Duplicate scenes can be used for a combination of scenarios, whether planning an entire new scene, or adjusting an active scene based on real-time changes in the environment.

Once the desired changes have been implemented, a manager will review the scene before approving the proposed changes for official release.

The main benefits of the duplicate scenes feature include:

  • Adapting and responding to different expected and unexpected scenarios

  • Dramatically speeding up workflow by adding a base starting point when planning

  • The removal of having to modify existing scenes back and forth with different information

As an example, a user may want a new scene closely identical in content to an existing scene but with minor changes. If a completely new scene was to be created from scratch, this would be labour intensive and time-consuming. By introducing duplicate scenes, a user can duplicate an existing scene and make changes to the content in the duplicated scene without having to touch existing scenes.

How to duplicate a scene

As a user, you will first go to the Scenes page where you will see all existing scenes.

For an overview of the Scenes page, click here.

Duplicating a scene

As a user,

1. You will click on the duplicate icon on the scene you want to duplicate

2. This will add a new scene row at the bottom of the scenes list for you to add in details

3. When the scene has been duplicated, you will then jump over into Digital Sign Manager, Map Editor or Parking Manager and make the necessary changes to that scene

a. Note: If you have made changes on Digital Sign Manager, when the page is refreshed you will see the sign markers change to orange. Orange refers to change, so all changes made in a scene that is not yet approved will be highlighted in orange.

4. Once all changes have been made, you will then go to the Scenes page, click to show additional scene details and all changes made will be shown underneath CHANGE LOG

5. You will then check the changes and click on [REQUEST APPROVAL] button

6. When the [REQUEST APPROVAL] button has been clicked on:

a. You will get a pop up informing you to assign a manager to approve the changes

b. There will also be an informative note that all managers will be notified

c. These approvals will be sent via email

d. There will also be the status label, [AWAITING APPROVAL], on scenes that are awaiting approval

7. A manager will then [APPROVE SCENE] or [DECLINE SCENE] and get a pop-up

a. When a manager approves a scene they will be told that they are taking responsibility for the new live changes and can add a comment

b. When a manager declines a scene, the agent will be notified via email, there will be a comment added by the manager as well as a status label, [APPROVAL DECLINED], to inform agents that the scene has been declined and issues need to be resolved
